Set Up For Success

A consistent golf swing starts with a solid foundation. To correctly execute the basic fundamentals of the golf swing effectively you MUST have proper posture, balance, and a grip that works. In posture, what I like to see is that the golfer has a slight hinge or bend at the waist and unlocked at the knees with a back that is flat. Below is an excellent drill you can do to achieve that and all you need is a club.

Part 1: The key to this is making sure your weight finishes on the balls of your feet and your spine matches the angle of the club's shaft.

Part 2: Check your body lines and make sure your shoulders, Waist, Knees, and toes are all parallel with the target line.

The Drill

Take a club and hold it vertically to the ground matching your spine standing straight up and down. Tilt forward at the waist keeping your legs straight and your back flat while maintaining a spine angle that matches the club's shaft. From there staying in your angle at the waist, unlock your knees. For alignment, you will want to make sure you have an alignment stick or club on the ground representing the target line so that when you check your body lines you have a reference point on whether or not they are parallel with the target line.
