#1 Mistake golfers make

One of the 4 most important pre-swing and in swing fundamentals that I see the inconsistant golfer get wrong is how to get into good posture to be able to make an athletic motion. Good posture will give you the chance to where with a natural motion you will be able to get the club face back to the ball looking at our target and swinging the same direction.
The two mistakes that majority of golfers will make which puts them off balance to begin their swing is too much bend at the waist which puts weight on your toes and then the opposite as well. The core is too erect and weight goes towards the heels. These to mistakes at setup will lead to a compensating golf swing and you will be trying to find your balance during your golf swing instead of just making a natural pivot on the way back and through to your finish.
Let's first get into the golfer who is too erect at set up. We need to remember that with proper arm and hand motion, what the club is doing is moving around our torso in a circular fashion with the bottom of that circle needing to be the ground on the target side of the ball for any shot off the ground. Now the issues golfers will run into with a sternum that is too erect at set up is first weight on the heels which means you are off balance to start your swing and trying to counter balance during your swing. That is bad because now the angle of the circle your club head is swinging on will change dramatically throughout your swing making it extremely difficult to consistently make solid contact. The other issue with not having enough tilt at the waist is the angle of the circle your club is swing on is to flat and you will have a tendency to dive down to the ball on your down swing to get closer to the ball and that will get the club way out of position and steep on the way down to the ball.
The other golfer I see is the person who is too bent over at the waist or rounded shoulders. If your back isnt't flat it will limit your mobility and you won't be able to make a big turn on the backswing which will limit the distance you hit the golf ball. Now for the person who is too bent over at the waist. This position will put weight on your toes at setup and that golfer will have a tendency to get the club too steep on the back and come up out of their posture on the downswing.
Below is the position we would like to be in and if you go over to my Basics For Beginners page you will see the drill for this.
